Sandbach Partnership has successfully launched the process to make Sandbach a dementia friendly town.
At the meeting, Sandbach Town Mayor Cllr Martin Forster accept the invitation to be the Dementia Sandbach Champion for Sandbach during his term of office and the Deputy Mayor pledged to be the Champion for next year.
Many towns across the country are now exploring what they need to do to make their towns dementia friendly.
A dementia friendly town can be described as:
A town or village where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported, and confident they can contribute to community life.
In a dementia – friendly community people will be aware of and understand dementia, and people with dementia will feel included and involved, and have choice and control over their day to day lives.
During 2018 the project will progress, offering Dementia awareness sessions and look to train more dementia champions to support the project.
The Partnership are working with others to build on the existing groups that meet in Sandbach to support sufferers and carers of people with dementia.
