Deadline Extended For Sandbach Town Plan Questionnaires
The deadline for the return of questionnaires for Sandbach Town Plan has been extended to 5thSeptember. Barry Moran, Cheshire East and Sandbach Town Councillor, explained “This survey gives residents the opportunity to air their views and influence future changes to Sandbach, so it is important to give people adequate time to complete and return their questionnaires. The results of the survey will form the basis of a Town Action Plan for Sandbach, which will effect how the town develops during the next 10 - 15 years. Since we want to obtain as wide a selection of opinions as possible, the Town Plan Steering Group has extended the deadline until after the traditional holiday season.”
Questionnaires can be completed online at www.sandbach.gov.uk by clicking on the Sandbach Town Plan Survey link. All online respondents will be automatically entered into a prize draw with the chance to win £250. Those residents who prefer to complete a paper copy can obtain additional questionnaires from the library. All household members can submit an individual response.

Sandbach Town Council, working closely with Sandbach Partnership, is running a project to develop a comprehensive Town Plan for the future development of the town toward 2020.
The project will seek to build upon an existing town vision, which was developed by the Town Council in 2007 and identified a number of quality standards and regeneration projects to take the town forwards, after wide consultation across the local community. Further widespread consultation will now be undertaken with individual members of the public, local businesses and the wealth of clubs societies and organisations based in the town, to update the original vision and generate new ideas.
Cllr Keith Haines, who is championing the project, commented, “The existing Town Vision has given direction to a number of projects, some of which have been completed and others which are ongoing. We now want to expand the vision statements into a more comprehensive and far-reaching development plan, which is based on the considered views of all stakeholders within the town.”
Dot Flint, Chairman of Sandbach Partnership commented “Sandbach Partnership is proud of its record in bringing inward investment and regeneration schemes into Sandbach over the last few years. We are keen to continue this good work and see the development of a Town Plan as a key building block in determining future schemes which will meet the expectations of the local community.”
Following public meetings during the Summer and Autumn of 2010 and formation of a Steering Group, it was decided to form five Focus Groups to study various topics, and issue an open invitation to members of the public to join those Focus Groups that represented their area of interest. The five Focus Groups are:
| Group | Spokesperson |
| Leisure, Events and Amenities | Mike Benson |
| Shops, Commerce, Industry and Jobs | David McGifford |
| Transport, Parking, Cycling and Pedestrians | Vaughan Thompson |
| Building, Heritage and Conservation | Malcolm Thurston |
| Parks and Green Spaces | Donald Bone |
Most of the groups held initial meetings at the end of October 2010 to evaluate the topics that they would cover and to assess the level of public interest. The initial response has been enthusiastic, although additional support from members of the public would be welcomed. This would help in getting the work done and ensure that we get balanced views that reflect the whole community.
The Focus Groups plan to continue their work through to Spring 2011, and will be working on the key questions to put to the public in early Summer 2011. When all the group’s questions have been rationalised and amalgamated, they will be put into a questionnaire for a widespread consultation with the whole community of Sandbach. The questionnaire will be made widely available in paper form through a number of outlets such as the library, Sandbach Partnership, the Literary Institute and many more. In addition to the paper copies, it is also hoped that thousands of Sandbach residents will complete the questionnaire on line.
